A Map of Xenoworld

Posted: August 7, 2015 in Uncategorized

When I woke up this morning, I didn’t know I’d be making a map. I didn’t think it was really possible because I’m terrible at Photoshop (or Gimp for this matter). It took a bit of learning, so I’m actually surprised I managed to cobble this together.

Some of the names are probably subject to change, but this is what I’ve got so far.

XenoworldIt shows where most of the books will take place, but there’s definitely a lot of stuff off the map as well. I’d love to do one for the Eastern Kingdoms or the Novan Empire itself, along with a lot of the smaller kingdoms and vassals that make their home in 2458 A.D. Mexico as well.

The part that took the longest was definitely The Red Wild. Trying to find the right hue for the xen was tricky to say the least. The map itself was just taken off Google Earth, but I ended up painting red everywhere the Wild was and made that layer transparent so the terrain beneath still showed through. I then painted on a bit more fungus (the brighter pink areas) that show thicker growth and xenoforest. The mountains show through on their own.

The only terrain I actually drew was Ragnarok Crater itself, since as we all know, it doesn’t exist in real life. I also drew the Colorado River, since it didn’t really show up well on the Google Earth map, and I wanted it to since the river features prominently in the series.

Anyway, making this map has given me quite a bit of confidence. I’d love to do more and also include them in the series. This map only shows the northern most extent of the Novan Empire, so as I said earlier, I’d love to do another of it.
